Having received the highest level (5 leaves) of the Certification for Sustainable Tourism endorses this commitment.

  • Because of this, we’d like to provide you with some tips to protect the environment and the culture of the places you visit. This way, you can become a responsible traveler, not only while in Costa Rica, but also in other places you may visit in the future.
  • Get involved with Costa Rica’s local culture and its traditions. Learn and respect the Costa Rican way of life and protect the areas you visit. This is the country’s heritage.
  • Save water during your trip, some good examples of what you can do are: to tell your hotel staff you don’t need your linens changed every day, taking short showers, and shutting off the water when brushing your teeth.
  • Save energy: turn off all lights and appliances, and turn down the heat or A/C, when leaving your room. In addition, when visiting other places, such as restaurants and touristic attractions, you can promote energy saving as well.
  • When taking a tour or performing activities within protected areas, follow all the recommendations made by your tour guide; by doing this, you will cause the least possible impact to those places.
  • Whenever possible, buy locally produced goods. This contributes to the socioeconomic development of the areas you visit, and the country in general.
  • Refuse any commercialization of pieces of archaeological and cultural heritage.
  • Costa Rica is a country that respects its nature. It has signed numerous international agreements to prevent the marketing of its flora and fauna. Please avoid purchasing any items made of natural and/or endangered species.
  • Whenever possible use environmentally friendly products, thus generating less waste and less of an impact to the environment. For example, try not to use regular plastic bags; ask instead for bags you can reuse. Please avoid using environmentally hazardous products in general.
  • Please do not feed wild animals. Food processed for human consumption contains ingredients that may harm them. Giving food to animals can turn them to be dependent of it and may cause serious health disorders, as it is not part of their natural diet.
  • Try to minimize waste generation. Choose recyclable or reusable products. In case you need to dispose of any item, look for the appropriate container, or ask your tour guide about the best way to do it. If you notice any source of pollution such as the one mentioned in your stay in the country, please inform your tour guide.
  • In Costa Rica, sexual harassment, child prostitution and the use of illegal substances are crimes punishable by law. Thus, we signed a Code of Conduct which helps prevent commercial sexual exploitation of minors or use of illegal substances. Please report it to our collaborators or to the local authorities.
  • If you witness or suspect of any action or activity against nature or society during you stay in our country, please report it to our staff or local authorities.
